Packaging & Shipping Guidelines for Electronics & Office Equipment
1. All shipments are F.O.B. to Luminous Electronics, Recycling, Inc. (LER) facilities unless otherwise specified in writing. All shipments shall meet US Department of Transportation (DOT) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) labeling and containerized specifications.

2. Large quantities of electronics (i.e. monitors, CPUs, copier, printers, televisions, etc.) should be placed on top of a pallet and use stretch film (shrink wrap) around the entire load - to prevent the items from moving during transportation. Here are some tips for packaging:

Monitors
  • 14" & 15" monitors can be laid screen down on a pallet. Fit as many rows of monitor that fit on a 42" x 48" pallet. Separate the rows of monitors with a layer of cardboard to protect from breaking. Continue to add up to 5 rows with a maximum height of 6 - 6 1/2 feet. Shrink wrap tightly to hold the skid together.

  • 17" and larger monitors can be done in the same manner (usually only 4 rows will fit).
CPU's
  • Similar sized CPU's can be stacked on pallets up to 5 feet tall. Build stacks on all 4 corners of the pallet (42"x48") and then fill in the open spaces with odd sized units. Shrink wrap tightly to hold the units together (approx. 45- 50 PC's).
Printers
  • Stack as best as possible on a pallet and shrink-wrap. Place larger laser and line printers on the bottom and fill in open areas with smaller sized units.
Miscellaneous Equipment
  • Small items (i.e. keyboards, mice, circuit boards, drives, etc.) can be placed in 4' x 4' x 4' Gaylord boxes and stacked on skids up to 5 feet tall. Shrink-wrap tightly.
3. All shipments must be accompanied by documentation from your company. For non-regulated shipments, a Bill of Lading or non-hazardous waste manifest may be used. A shipping label must be attached to each loose container or each pallet before shipping. The label must specify generator name, destination facility and contents of container.

4. All shipments must have a pre-approved authorization by LER.

5. LER will inspect all electronic recycling components upon arrival at the LER facility. Any defects or discrepancies, LER will notify the customer/shipper as soon as practical via phone or in writing, describing any defects and discrepancies.

Contact LER at 303-660-2000 with any questions on
shipping and packaging.
