Frequently-Asked Questions - General
“What types of electronics do you accept?”
We specialize in processing and recycling business and consumer electronics. We process all components associated with computers, including monitors. We accept all consumer electronics and telecommunications equipment like fax machines and copiers. We also accept cell phones, pagers and answering machines. We don’t process “white goods” like refrigerators and stoves. We can recommend ethical and environmentally safe processors for these items.
“Will I have to pay for recycling?”
There is a cost associated with processing and recycling electronic equipment. Our service fee is determined by:
• Quantity of equipment
• Quality and type of electronics
• Logistics including distance and labor.
Some IT equipment, generally an asset under 3 years old, has remarket value. Additionally, depending on market conditions, the intrinsic value of recovered metal and plastics can offset service fees.
Your overall cost of recycling can be determined by an accounting of existing costs. Routine, managed recycling is usually more cost efficient than the costs associated with storage, inventory management, property taxes and asset devaluation. We can help you develop a cost-efficient solution that meets your needs.
“We’ve used a local scrap dealer to dispose of our electronics at no charge. Sometimes the dealer will even pay us for our old electronics. What’s the difference?”
Scrap dealers providing no-cost or pay-for-pick-up are virtually non-existent. An improved awareness of the environmental hazards of mishandling e-waste along with new federal and state laws governing e-waste and data management require a business model and process that free cannot accommodate. Free often means unsafe and illegal. Our service fees provide for the proper, safe and responsible handling of your IT assets with respect for the environment and compliance with federal and state statutes and regulations.
“What about offsetting electronics recycling costs for working equipment?”
Non-obsolete equipment in good working order with remarket value can offset the cost of recycling service fees. We evaluate your assets to help determine value and provide remarket options. Computer equipment depreciates at an average rate of 6% to 10% monthly, capturing the highest possible monetary return requires the shortest storage time possible. Routine IT asset disposition improves your opportunity for best re-market value capture.
“Will you recycle the e-waste I have at home?”
LER provides service and support for consumer recycling through events, at collection points and as a downstream processor for other recyclers and collectors. We routinely meet and speak in schools, non-profits and churches to help educate the community about how individuals can make a huge difference tackling the e-waste problem. We welcome the opportunity to provide information, tours and speakers to meet with and help educate members of your organization. Please call us, we want to help you help our community and preserve the beauty and health of our landscape.
